Tournament Rules & Registration

National Federation rules will be used, with the exceptions of these changes:

  1. GAME FORMAT  – Two 18 minute halves, running time.  Clock will stop for injuries, time-outs, and other official purposes.  If the score is 10 points or less, the clock will stop during the last 2 minutes of the game.

  2. OVERTIME  – 2 minutes with the clock stopping on everything and an addition time out plus those not used.  A jump ball will begin each overtime period.  A maximum of two overtime periods and then ending on the first to score in the third.

  3. TIMEOUTS  – Three 45 second timeouts per game.

  4. HALF-TIME  – 3 minutes depending on time availability.

  5. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME  – Teams must have 5 players on the floor to begin a game.  A forfeited game counts as one of your teams guaranteed games.

  6. THREE POINT SHOT – Will be used where it is properly marked.

  7. PERSONAL FOULS  – Players are allowed 5 fouls.  Teams will shoot the bonus on the 7th team foul.  On the 10th team foul, teams will shoot two shots.

  8. DEFENSES  – 7th & 8th grade may play any type of defense.  4th, 5th, & 6th grade MUST play man to man.  First violation – warning.  Second violation – technical.  Note:  ½ court help defense is not a zone if defensive player has body in proper position to see man they are guarding and the ball.  Zone should be called if defensive player has back turned on man they are guarding.  Double team is not a zone if offense presents ball in another defensive player’s area.  Full court:  Common sense must prevail!  If teams are in transition and offense dribbles ball off a foot or throws a wild pass the defense may gain possession as there is no pressing intent.

  9. PRESSING  – Full court pressing is allowed for 7th & 8th grade.  4th, 5th & 6th may press the last two minutes of the game.  When one team is leading by 10 or more points, that team is not allowed to full court press.

  10. SUBSTITUTION  - Free substitution is not allowed.  Players must report to scorer’s table and wait for a dead ball situation & referees to beckon them in.

  11. BASKETBALLS  – Intermediate size ball will be used for all girls and 4th, 5th, 6th  & 7th grade boys.  Regulation basketballs will be used for the 8th grade boys.

  12. CONDUCT  – Players and coaches should respect decisions of the officials.  If a player or coach receives a technical foul because of their conduct, they will be banished from the game.  A second technical will result in banishment from the tournament.

  13. ELIGIBILITY  - Players must compete in their own grade classifications with the exception that players in a lower grade may participate in an older division.  Players from different schools may play together.

  14. UNIFORMS   – All teams must have uniform shirts with visible numbers.

  15. ROSTERS  – Roster changes will not be allowed after your first game has started.  Make sure all players are listed in the official scorebook of the first game.  This roster will be followed for all other games.  All players must have parent’s signatures prior to playing.
